Redesign of Orion Rockscapes

Orion was using a template website program supplied by their website hosting service. This worked fairly well, but didn't allow them to be as creative and flexible as they wanted to be. Additionally, they wanted the design of the site to match the rest of their marketing collateral - company letterhead, business cards, signage and newly created tshirts. With the launch of their newly designed site, clients now have a cohesive brand experience.

Since they were already managing their own site, providing an easy-to-use CMS (Content Management System) was needed, and again, I turned to WordPress. While there are many template sites available out there, WordPress has 1000's of options for customization and is certainly one of the best ways for providing a client with ability to maintain their website from a central and simple interface.

Images, Keywords and SEO

Orion's previous site had loads of images, but very little text. Given that the site is largely images, I urged Orion to add more descriptive, "key word" captions to images and slideshows and to add more content to pages. They now have "Case Study" pages, which feature a particular project with images and narrative describing the project. The addition of relevant content is beneficial for the site achieving a higher ranking on search engines.

Another key to SEO (Search Engine Optimization) was adding the WordPress SEO by Yoast plugin. This tool allows the client to optimize each page easily, to ensure it has the best chance of being found by Google and Bing.
